Why should mountain bikers strength train?

The popularity of strength training has increased as a cross training method for mountain bikers in recent years. There are numerous benefits ranging from increased performance to improved health allowing you to ride more and ride longer than before.

A stronger, more powerful body allows you to ride faster for a longer distance.

Reduced risk of injury from crashes and chronic injury from repetitive stress.

Reducing or even reversing the loss of bone density and muscle mass from aging and the catabolic effects of low intensity endurance activity.

Improving movement patterns which are neglected while riding improves overall athleticism, giving a larger dynamic range to operate.

Choosing a program which is effective, safe and geared toward improving the abilities of a mountain biker is hard.

There are many programs out there which are re-branded from gen pop or CrossFit which don't work on what is needed for mountain biking.

If you have recently signed up for this mailing list to get access to the MTB Strength Club sign up, there is an email scheduled for next week which all of you will be one of the first to get access to the sign up link.

If you are not in Calgary, AB or not able to come train in person this winter I have multiple options available for online training to help you gain the benefits of strength training for your 2025 season.

They try, they fall, they laugh, and they try again. There’s no fear of “getting it wrong.” It’s just play. What if we brought that same mindset to our own skill sessions?...

The off-season is where the work happens. The in-season is where it all comes together. But making the transition between the two? That’s where a lot of riders get tripped up. You’ve put in months of strength training, mobility work, and structured intervals—now it’s time to get back to full-on riding without losing your progress or burning out too soon. If you’ve ever felt sluggish when you first get back on the trails or found yourself overtraining as the season progresses, you’re not...
